“Iron rusts from disuse; water loses its purity from stagnation...even so does inaction sap the vigor of the mind.â€Leonardo da Vinci
So much of the world's suffering is a result of sinful action or inaction committed by others or us. For example, look at a survey that was published the other day. It suggested that half of all Kenyans go to bed hungry every night and wonder who cursed us. Now in Kenya, a lot of farm produce goes to waste either because there is no infrastructure to enable the farmer to transport their produce to a market, or failure by the government to buy the surplus and store it due to ineffectiveness.
It’s a great shame not only to the government but also to the rest of us that half of the country goes to bed hungry while we just watch and do nothing to change it. How ironic is it that counties can afford to buy wheelbarrows for a million shillings or pay a consultant over a million shillings to open a Facebook account while people go to bed hungry. As someone once said, “Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted; the indifference of those who should have known better; the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph.â€
Ranting on Twitter or Facebook or creating memes of which we are very good at does not count as action. Unless we decide to take concrete action and force those who have been mandated to do their work, more people will continue to go bed hungry every night, lot of people will continue to be victims of fake doctors and pastors, rogue politicians will continue to embezzle our taxes in broad day light, and many other evils will continue to flourish in expense of our inaction.
Our inaction will continue to negatively impact the people we know, we may never know, and never meet across our country. I am hoping and praying that when the next evil thing happens that we will be compelled to act in a meaningful way that will force change and action to be taken against the perpetrator rather than start another hashtag.
